Despite the unknown etiology of psoriasis and the factors that cause it, the stages of its development are well studied.The classification of psoriasis in the stage facilitates the evaluation of the course of the disease, helps to identify the sensitivity to a certain method of treatment and determine the tactics of the patients.

The stages of psoriasis are classified depending on the nature of exacerbation (or activity of the inflammation process) and gravity.
Stages of psoriasis depending on exacerbation
Psoriasis is a disease that has 3 stages:
- progressive;
- stationary;
- Retrograde;
- remission.
Progressive stage symptoms
This stage is characterized by obvious signs of exacerbation.Multiple skin rashes appear, which have the shape of red nodules (papules, tubers) that have an oval or rounded shape.They merge and form spotlights that occupy a large area, their surface is actively peeling, the patient at the same time experiences severe itching from the skin and, sometimes, an ardor feeling.Itching can be exhausting and disturb the patient, not only during ordinary life, but even in a dream, with the itching to intensify when contacting clothes.After the delay of the scales, the surface can get wet and become a means of nutrients for the spread of bacteria.
The main manifestations of the progressive stage are:
- the appearance of papules on extensor surfaces of the limbs and in the body;
- the fusion of ppules in conglomerates ("plates"), with a whitish color;
- peeled from the conglomerates surface;
- There are no scales in the region of the edges of the plates, but there is a hyperemic edge;
- The edges of the plates are compacted;
- The presence of a Kebner phenomenon: when mechanical damage (cut, scratch) appears on the uninhabited skin, a new psoriatic plaque is formed instead.
The more intense during the progressive stage is the redness of the skin, the more active the inflammation process.The most dangerous consequence of psoriasis is psoriatic arthritis, while severe joint pain occurs, as a result, the joints are deformed.

Symptoms of the stationary stage
With the beginning of the stationary stage, there is a gradual attenuation of the exacerbation process.At the same time, the papules become pale, they turn from red to pink, there are no new rashes in this period.The surface of the knots has the shape of "plates", is dense, covered with a crust, which is represented by numerous dry skin scales.The nature of the healing of the papules begins from the center to the periphery.The presence of a stationary stage of psoriasis confirms the effectiveness of treatment.
The main manifestations of this stage are:
- lack of eruptions of new papules;
- Existing plates stop their growth;
- The surface of the plates is covered with scales;
- The red edge disappears around the squamous plates;
- Kebner's phenomenon disappears.
Symptoms of the regression stage
In the regression stage, the process is invitation.The "plates" are resolved, forming areas of skin department.The itching of the skin gradually disappears, the signs of peeling decrease.
Psoriasis regression signs:
- There is a border of Voronov around the plates (dense visible ring folds located around the psoriatic plates);
- Reduction and gradual disappearance of peela;
- On the plaque site, department areas (white or dark) are formed.
In the regression stage, the plates disappear completely, the remains of the plates are possible in the area: knees, elbows, abdomen, buttocks.
Remission
Referral is the apparent recovery stage.During remission, psoriasis is in a state of "sleep", but does not disappear from the body.The remission of psoriasis lasts until the next exacerbation (progressive stage).

It should be noted that during the exacerbation of psoriasis, the general condition of a person does not change, will work, is dedicated to family family matters.Psoriasis brings only one aesthetic and cosmetic defect to a person: the patient's skin is scratching a lot, a person cannot wear open clothes, if there is an exacerbation in the summer, a person cannot visit the pool, go to massages, cosmetic procedures, etc.
Stages of psoriasis depending on the area of injury
The severity of psoriasis also depends on the area of skin lesions.Then, at a mild stage, only 3%of the surface of the skin is affected, with an average, from 3 to 10%, and with a heavy, more than 10%.Psoriasis, which caused damage to the joints, belongs to a severe degree, in which case the area of skin lesions is not taken into account.You can measure the damage area yourself.For this purpose, the open palm rule is used (the area of the skin corresponding to the human palm area is 1% of the entire surface of the body).
PASI index
The general system to evaluate the severity of psoriasis is evaluated using the PASI index, which includes an evaluation of prevalence and severity, as well as the severity of the manifestation of the disease.This indicator is estimated from 0 to 72. At the same time, the slight degree of psoriasis has an indicator of less than 10, the average, from 10 to 20, the heavy one, more than 20. Using the PASI index, the clinical effectiveness of the treatment is also calculated.
In addition to the different stages, psoriasis can have different types: seborrheic, exudative, plantar, intertriginous, ancient, rupioid, arrested, nail psoriasis and mucous membranes.It is impossible to completely cure psoriasis, but can achieve a long remission.This objective is persecuted by modern treatment methods.
